What You Should Know
Permanent cosmetics are a timesaving and
beautifying enhancement for the everyday woman, people with
sparse or non-existent eyebrows or eyelashes, faded or uneven lip
color, scarring, female balding, as well as a means of providing
areola color after reconstructive breast surgery. Allergy
sufferers or mature women with poor vision make ideal candidates
for permanent cosmetics. Eyelashes appear thicker, lips fuller
and brows soft and defined. Also know as cosmetic tattooing,
specially formulated pigments are deposited just under the
surface of the skin. The experienced technician can provide
incredibly natural results, which can last for 3-8 years, after
which a simple touch-up restores the color.
The permanent cosmetic industry has become
increasingly popular throughout the last several decades and has
evolved into an incredibly reliable and practical means to
permanent enhancement. Qualified technicians have access to
numerous industry seminars and continuing educational courses
throughout the country. Technicians should be recognized by the
Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals and/or the American
Academy of Micropigmentation.
Services should be found at physician's
offices and specialty skin care centers. Technicians should
ideally have a strong background in professional makeup, as this
is not a medical procedure, but an aesthetic enhancement. Procedure areas should be in a closed off room.
Sessions usually run between 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 hours.
Following are some important facts to be
aware of if you are considering permanent makeup:
- Know the credentials of your
technician and study their portfolio with a discerning
eye. Do they communicate well and provide you with
concise information and answers to all of your concerns?
- Ask to see your potential technician's
work area. Do they make use of barrier film to protect from harmful bacteria? What means
do they use for sterilization?
- Does your potential technician know
where they stand in regards to the law? The State of
Georgia requires both a business license and working
permit;
- Many 2-day 'get-rich-quick' courses
have been made available allowing just anyone to become a
permanent cosmetic technician. Resulting poor client
satisfaction has been detrimental for both the public and
the industry;
- Unlike in years past, topical
anesthetics provide for extremely effective
numbing of an area;
- Permanent cosmetics are not only
practical they are extremely safe. Safeguards include
sterilization guidelines in accordance with the CDC and
OSHA; and
- Pigments are comprised of organic
color, glycerin, alcohol and water.
Which Color Will Be Right For Me?
Understanding proper color theory is the
basis to successful implantation of color. The accurate
determination of undertones is also essential for a beautiful end
result. Premium quality pigments are custom blended for each
individual. Since colors heal just under the skin, the effect is
less detectable than actual makeup.
A personal consultation will determine the
best and most natural solution for each individual. The initial
application of permanent cosmetics makes for beautiful and
natural results. Clients should not need to return time and again
to see the results they want, however, for more vibrancy or
intensity, a touch-up visit will necessary, otherwise, satisfying
results can be expected with only one visit.
Eyeliner - can be placed 'in
between' the lashes themselves for a most natural result...
Pigments are available in any color you may desire although;
variations of blacks and browns are most common. Sarah is
accustomed to recognizing which color formula will best suit her
client.
Popular color choices are: Warm Black, Cool
Black, Jet Black, Black Brown, Soft Black, Deep Chocolate, Dark
Brown, Medium Brown, Dark Taupe. Custom blended colors common for
the lower lash line are: Soft Brown, Soft Black, Taupe, Charcoal,
Olive Brown, Golden Brown, Slate, Hazel, Soft Teal.
If 2 and 3 toned custom eyeliner colors are
desired, additional appointments will be necessary.
Eyebrows
Unique techniques and amazing results can
be seen in Sarah's handiwork. Discover your most natural solution
in a personal consultation. Colors are custom mixed for you after
undertones are determined and desired results are thoroughly
discussed. Virtually any color or technique is available.
Quite common is Sarah's ability to
"soften" pre-existing darker brows and "arch and
extend" where mother nature left off. Artful strokes
emulating "hair" often times give clients a virtual
"face lift."
Lip Color
Referred to as "The Hottest Lips in
Town," Sarah has become the most sought after technician in
the South. Whether clients want to wake-up with soft and defined
baby lips, or brighter more vivid lips, all color tones are
available. Men and women can receive a natural
outline to help create a fuller, more defined mouth.
Corrective Work
Many of Sarah's clients come to her with previously
tattooed brows, eyes and lips, which have turned and/or faded
to unsavory colors. This unfortunate situation was due to either
poor technique or at a time when specially formulated colors were
not available. Corrective counter-color treatments can
effectively restore areas within 2-3 sessions.
Eyebrows
Commonly seen is the brow which was
originally tattooed too dark. The faded results often appear
steel gray or blue/charcoal. Two or more treatments may be
required to achieve desired results.
Lipcolor
Improper lip techniques can be seen looking
an unsightly bluish purple. Again, this is easily corrected
within 1-3 sessions.
Eyeliner
Misplaced eyeliner is common in the hands
of an unqualified technician. Artful techniques can soften and
smooth existing pigment.
Eyeliner can fade producing a bluish hue. A
lot of women are happy with the "cool" results, but
many need a richer warmer color. One quick touch-up can set your
eyeliner to last for another 3+ years.
